Friends of L’Arche Fort Collins (FOLFC) recently (August 2018) completed the application and approval process to become a certified Provider Approved Service Agency (PASA). PASA certification represents a significant step in FOLFC’s efforts to become a L’Arche community and open our first home supporting persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
L’Arche USA requires each local community to meet the professional standards and quality assurance requirements of the regulatory agencies within its state. In Colorado, the regulatory agencies responsible for approval and ongoing monitoring of IDD service providers are the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF).
The PASA approval process is a lengthy endeavor in which the prospective PASA is reviewed and audited by CDPHE and HCPF to ensure its business plan and operating procedures meet the standards of care for persons with IDD living in residential community settings in Colorado. Thanks to CDHPE and HCPF for their technical guidance and support and to our FOLFC team (Sarah Reichhardt, Jennifer Pfiester, Tammy Breeding, and Richard Trebus) for their work over the past year to make this happen.
